Conquering Mountains: How to Solo Travel the World Fearlessly
Traveling solo for the first time can be scary. Like really scary. From the moment you decide to go, you’ll find yourself questioning everything.
You’ll ask yourself ‘What am I doing?’ on a daily basis. You’ll think about retracting your notice at work. You’ll question how this will affect your family, your job, your relationships. You’ll probably cry. A lot.
But I when you do go, you won’t regret it. I’ll tell you one thing, getting on that plane is THE MOST difficult thing you’re likely to do. But how to you even build up the courage and strength to get to that point? That’s the challenge.
When I went on my first solo trip around the world, I was terrified. There weren’t many online resources for travel and even less for women. I literally had no idea what I was doing, winging my way around the world, making it up as I went.  In fact, I don’t even think ‘solo female traveler’ was a thing back then. I mean, there were quite a few women traveling on their own, but over the last few years solo female has really boomed and fearless women everywhere are paving the way.
One of those women is Kristin Addis, who writes one of my favourite blogs, Be My Travel Muse. Kristin and I met on a blog trip to western Ireland a couple of years ago! Fast forward two years and countless solo adventures later, Kristin has written Conquering Mountains: How to Travel the World Fearlessly, a handbook for first-time solo female travelers. Kristin says she gets so many emails from women who want to travel the world but who are scared to go alone, so she wrote the book for them. For you. She said it’s  “basically the book I wish existed before I started traveling.”
When she asked me if I’d like to have a read, of course I said yes. The book is a great read and even though I’ve been traveling solo for a long time now, I learned a lot!
It covers everything you need to know including:
- Taking the first steps
- Looking after your money
- Planning
- Staying safe on the road
- Being a solo traveler
